Loans and services

Everyone is welcome to get a library card here. However, our course literature can only be borrowed by students and staff at Södertörn University, The Swedish Red Cross University College and our partner libraries.

Library card

Book spinesStudents and staff at Södertörn University (SH) use their SH-card (SH-kort) as a library card, entry card and to make copies and prints. The SH-card can be collected at the reception in Moas Båge after registration and having your picture taken.

Students and staff at The Swedish Red Cross University College (RKH) and The Stockholm University College of Music Education (SMI) will need to apply for a library card at the lnformation desk in the library. Bring your ID. The same goes for students and staff at our partner libraries Karolinska Institutet (KI) and The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH).

All others wishing to get a library card are welcome to apply at the Information desk in the library. You must be 16 years old, or over, and be able to present valid identification.

Loan types:

  • Course literature (yellow label):
7 day loan. Students and staff at SH, RKH, SMI, KI and KTH may borrow.
  • Day loans (black label) and reference books (red label): Return before closing time. All may borrow.
  • 3 week loans (green label):
All other books may be borrowed for 3 weeks. All may borrow.

The library card number is also used for other services, such as renewing loans, requesting books and ordering interlibrary loans.

Loan regulations

All library card holders at Södertörn University Library are obliged to follow our loan regulations and conditions of use. Among other things, we have fines for overdue material. Read more on page Loan regulations and overdue fines.

Searching and borrowing books and e-resources

In the library's search tool, SöderScholar, you can search through our books, e-books, print- and e-journals and more. You will find the SöderScholar search box top-left on most pages on the library website. More information, for example how you can access our e-resources off-campus, can be found on the Books and e-resources page. Please note that some resources are not searchable in SöderScholar. See the list Other resurces A-Z for more information.

The library's course literature can only be borrowed by students and staff at SH, RKH, SMI, KI and KTH.

Requesting books

If the book you would like to borrow is already on loan you can make a request and be placed in the queue for it. To request a book in SöderScholar, first find the book you would like to borrow, click "Request this book" and then fill in the form shown. When the book you have reserved is ready for collection you will be sent an email. You collect requested books at the library Information desk.

Please note that it is not possible to reserve course books that are listed as "Available" in SöderScholar, day loans or reference material. Instead, the first person who collects the book at the shelf gets it. The earlier you arrive, the better your chance of getting a book.

Renewing loans

You can renew your loans via the library website - go to "My loans" at the library start page and log in. You can also contact the Information desk in the library by telephone, email or live chat.

Returning books

You return the books in the check in machine next to the Information desk in the library. Please remember to always take a receipt. You can also put the books in the book-drop around the corner, left of the entrance to the library building, if the library is closed. Staff in the library will return the books the next day.
