Library services for web-based learning

Students on a web-based learning course can ask us for help borrowing books, searching for information or with other library related errands. Students on web-based learning courses can have books sent to their home, free of charge, and extended loan periods.

Library card

To borrow books remotely, you must have a library card number. Contact the library by e-mail, biblioteket@sh.se, to receive your library card number. Please remember to give your name, personal number, course code, current address and e-mail address.

SH-card

If you visit the university and, for example, want access to the computer rooms you will need an SH-card. To get an SH-card go to Reception in Moas Båge, where you will be photographed. Then you can collect your SH-card a few days later; remember to take valid photo-identification with you.

Books and e-resources

Via our website and with the library search tool SöderScholar you can access course literature, electronic journals and other electronic resources that will help you in your studies. You can get access to the resources externally. For more information go to the Access to e-resources page.

Books sent to your home (distance loans)

As a student on one of the university's web-based learning courses you can have books sent to your home, free of charge, on condition that you live in Sweden, but outside of Stockholm, your post number should not begin with "1".

  • Loan periods for "distance loans" are one week more than the usual loan period.
  • For course literature this means a fourteen day loan period and for other literature a twenty-eight day loan period.
  • You are personally responsible for returning the literature to the library, including all postage costs. The return address for the library is: Södertörns högskolebibliotek, 141 89 Huddinge. Write "Kundservice" on the package.

To have a book sent to your home, follow the steps:

  1. Go to the library search tool SöderScholar.
  2. Find the book you would like to borrow and click "Hold this item".
  3. Log-in with your name and library card number.
  4. In the  "Pickup Location" menu select "Distansstud. SH".

Book a tutorial in information searches

The library offers the opportunity to have a tutorial on information searches for students writing c-essays and similar academic texts. As a distance learning student you can also take part in this tutorial via telephone or e-mail. Fill in the form on the Tutorial on information searches page. Remember to write that you are a student on a web-based learning course.
