Culture and Education

Interior from Södertörn UniversityThe School of Culture and Education includes the following subjects: English, Aesthetics, Aesthetic Learning Processes, Philosophy, Gender Studies, Art History, Comparative Literature, Media and Communication Studies, Education, Rhetoric and Swedish, as well as Teacher Education and the Centre for Studies in Practical Knowledge.

Teachers and researchers at the school largely work across subject boundaries, and Teacher Education involves teachers from a number of subjects at the school and from other academic schools at the university.

Third stream activities

Third stream activities are managed differently by each subject and programme at the school. Teacher Education conducts its activities via RUC, the regional development centre, which works with twenty-five of the county's municipalities and some municipalities outside of the Stockholm region, as well as with independent schools and pre-schools.

The Centre for Studies in Practical Knowledge and the various subjects conduct contract education for professionals external to higher education. There are also opportunities for placements on which students get a feel for working life.

Third stream activities at the School of Culture and Education also involve cooperation with other higher education institutions, such as the Royal Institute of Art, Karolinska Institutet and KTH Royal Institute of Technology, as well as centres for teacher training and cultural institutions such as museums and theatres, e.g. Moderna museet, Nobel Museum, Bonniers Konsthall and Södra teatern. There is also extensive cooperation with the web-based media and the press.
