Finding alternative accommodation

It may prove difficult to find a student apartment or room in Stockholm upon your arrival and it's therefore advisable to arrange your stay before the start of the semester. It is particularly problematic if you arrive in Sweden at the beginning of the academic year, when Swedish students are also looking for student housing. You should therefore plan for a temporary arrangement, such as a youth hostel, before moving into permanent accommodation.

For more information, check this useful and up-to-date guide via the Student union on how to look for housing in Stockholm.

International students just arriving in Sweden do not automatically obtain a Swedish ID number (personnummer) and may therefore initially experience some difficulty in finding accommodation.

There are housing companies that do not require visiting students to supply a personal ID number, Stockholm Housing Foundation SSSB, is one of them.
