Public Law is the collective name for the legislation that covers the relationship between the state and the individual. It regulates which rights and obligations individuals and companies have in relationship to the state.

The research carried out by the Department of Public Law out focuses on the relationship between the state an the citizens. This topic is tackled from different angles such as the legal protection for privacy of the citizens towards the state, the right of access to information in general, and the legal instruments the citizens have at their disposal for participating in the decision making process in environmental matters.
A large part of the research has a comparative approach and/or analyze the changes that imbue Public Law, not least the Europeisation process.
