Students at Södertörn University.Södertörn University offers courses and programmes in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Technology, as well as teacher education with an intercultural profile. A number of our courses and programmes are multidisciplinary and are the result of cooperation between different subjects. To ensure that our students develop the expertise demanded by the labour market, new programmes are often developed in partnership with industry representatives.

Södertörn University offers Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral courses and programmes (first, second and third cycle). The courses and programmes available in English at Bachelor's and Master's levels are presented below, as well as the university's schools and departments. Education and research at Södertörn University is organised into six schools. All subjects, programmes and centres belong to a school, which is responsible for all activities, including staff, students, financing, premises and the work environment. The Head of School is the director and leads the academic and educational activities. Teacher education belongs to the School of Culture and Education, but has its own director and administration. The teachers are contracted from other schools at the university.

Culture and Education

The School of Culture and Education offers English, Aesthetics, Philosophy, Gender Studies, Art History, Comparative Literature, Media and Communication Studies, Education, Rhetoric, Swedish, and Teacher Education. It also hosts the Centre for Studies in Practical Knowledge.

Historical and Contemporary Studies

We conduct research and education in Archaeology, Archive Studies, Ethnology, History, History of Ideas and the Study of Religions, as well as hosting the MARIS research centre and the Institute of Contemporary History.

Natural Sciences, Technology and Environmental Studies

The School of Natural Sciences, Technology and Environmental Studies conducts education and research in Media Technology and Informatics, Environmental Science, Tourism Studies, Biology, Mathematics Teaching, Nutrition Studies and Geography. These form the basis of a multidisciplinary environment with a strong focus on interdisciplinarity.

Police Education

Work as a police officer is complex, requiring continual updates to knowledge and expertise in many areas. Our Police Education is located in a multicultural urban area where the trainee police officers are well placed to learn about the complexity of their profession.

Social Sciences

The School of Social Sciences conducts research and education in the following subjects: Business Studies, Journalism, Economics, Public Law, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology and Political Science.

Teacher Education

We train and educate pre-school teachers, extended school instructors and teachers for primary, lower and upper-secondary schools. Teacher Education is the hub of the university’s research and doctoral programmes and courses in the field of educational science. We also offer continuing education for professional educators, as well as contract education.
