Schools and professional education
The university's academic schools are responsible for education and research.
The school is responsible for all its activities, including staff, students, financing, facilities and work environment. Subjects, programmes and research centres are part of the school.
Each school has a Head of School, who is the manager and academic and educational leader. The position can be held for three years, with the opportunity to extend it for a further three years. The Head of School reports directly to the Vice-Chancellor.
Teacher Education has its own director and administration, while the teachers are contracted from the academic schools.
Subjects and centres have links to their web pages from the relevant school.
Södertörn University's four academic schools, and two professional educations:
We conduct research and education in Archaeology, Archive Studies, Ethnology, History, History of Ideas and the Study of Religions, as well as hosting the MARIS research centre and the Institute of Contemporary History.
Work as a police officer is complex, requiring continual updates to knowledge and expertise in many areas. Our Police Education is located in a multicultural urban area where the trainee police officers are well placed to learn about the complexity of their profession.
We train and educate pre-school teachers, extended school instructors and teachers for primary, lower and upper-secondary schools. Teacher Education is the hub of the university’s research and doctoral programmes and courses in the field of educational science. We also offer continuing education for professional educators, as well as contract education.
