Health and Social Change

Course 7,5 credits

This course focuses upon how social circumstances, especially social change, affect people's health in different ways, examining for example mortality, incidence of various diseases - and even different diagnoses - and health-related behaviours, such as alcohol consumption. The course studies also how the population's overall health influences social and economic development, a fact that is often overlooked in this context. The world's modernisation, globalisation and the transformation of Eastern Europe after 1989 are some of the types of social change whose effects on public health are covered on the course.
