Media History: Archeology and Archives

Course 7,5 credits

The course focuses on classic and more recent theories of historic perspectives on media and communication studies. Rather than describing the conventional linear development of the mass media, the media’s status is described as an archive, as well as their participation in contemporary processes of historisation, breaks in the “recording system” through which societies and cultures have historically stored and conveyed historic information, and the dialectics between old and new media.
