Media, Culture and Society 1

Course 7,5 credits

Contemporary life is permeated by messages produced by the media. These messages come in the form of news broadcasts, public information, commercials, entertainment and fiction, among other things. This course examines how dominant media technologies, i.e. broadcasting, print and digital media, are linked to the communication process, i.e. production, text and reception/audience. The course uses research models developed in both the humanities and the social sciences. The aim is to provide students with the theoretical and analytical knowledge necessary to understand the role of the mass media and mass communication in culture and society from historical, sociological, psychological and aesthetic perspectives. The course is held in the second half of the spring and autumn semesters. A good understanding of the English language is required.
