Understanding Organisations

Course 7.5 credits

The object of this course is to acquaint students with key perspectives in organisation theory and to teach them how to apply these theories. Skills in interpreting and decoding organisational phenomena from a variety of theoretical angles, as well as using tools from different theoretical traditions, are important prerequisites for productive analysis. The course examines a selection of central metaphors in organisation studies. The aim of the course is to develop rich metaphor and to train students in multi-faceted thinking, rather than to memorise or proselytise for a particular metaphor or theory.
