Theories of Interpretive and Critical Research

Course 7.5 credits

The course includes in-depth reviews of various strands of interpretive and critical theory. Students are given the opportunity to specialise in interpretive policy analysis and feminist approaches in policy analysis, for example, as well as governance and critical political economy.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student is able to:
• orally and in writing demonstrate familiarity with central theories of interpretive and critical research, and their empirical application
• orally and in writing demonstrate an understanding of how choosing different interpretive and critical perspectives affects the analysis of political dynamics and processes
• orally and in writing relate theoretical concerns to different case studies and fields of specialisation within the study of interpretive and critical research
• orally and in writing formulate theoretically and empirically relevant questions within the field of interpretive and critical research.

Grading criteria will be distributed at course/module start.
