Inga Brandell is a Senior Professor in Political Science, and since August 2013 equally Professor II at the Department of Political Science, University of Oslo. She has her PhD from Uppsala University, and has worked as a researcher at the International Peace Research Institute in Oslo, with the AKUT group at Uppsala University, and as a university teacher and researcher at Stockholm, Uppsala and Södertörn Universities. She was head of the multi-disciplinary research project on "Borders and Boundaries in the Middle East" (Uppsala University) and presided the recruitement group for social and natural sciences at Södertörn University. She has been director of the graduate school in political science at Södertörn. She also served at the Swedish Foreign Ministry, and was posted in Alexandria, Egypt in the early 2000s. 

Her research interests are focused on politics and political change in the Middle East, in particular the North African countries, most often in connection with their regional and international relations and setting. A current research project, conducted together with Åsa Lundgren and Emma Jørum at Uppsala University, revolves around the relations between the Middle Eastern states and their emigrated citizens (Unbound State? The Nation-State and the Departed Populations in the Middle East).

Inga Brandell teaches Middle Eastern Politics, Political Theory, Theory of Knowledge. Fall 2014 she gives a doctoral course on The Arab Spring: a Challenge to Comparative and International Politics, at the Department of Political Science, University of Oslo.
