My research work has mainly been focused on the reconstruction of Quaternary palaeoecological and palaeoclimatic parameters via pollen analysis. It also embraces inter-connections between environmental processes and human activity, starting from prehistory and approaching the modern time. My educational background includes Bachelor and Masters’ degrees in Environmental protection, and Erasmus Mundus Master in Quaternary and Prehistory.

The PhD research project I started at BEEGS/CEEES in October, 2016 aims to study the influence of changes in land-use and human impact on the Baltic Sea coastal zone of the eastern Sweden over the last 2000 years using palynological analysis. It is going to provide data on anthropogenic influence on the Baltic Sea ecosystem over time.

Palynological analysis uses undisturbed sediments and suggests that fossil pollen grains reflect vegetation and environmental characteristics of the period corresponding to the formation of sediments. That makes it possible to trace the vegetation development and infer climatic and anthropogenic factors that conditioned the formation of particular vegetation communities.
