My most long-lasting interest is in genetic structures in plant populations – how the evolutionary processes natural selection, drift and gene flow interact to make possible (or make impossible) local adaptation. Interactions between biodiversity levels (gene-species-ecosystems), spatial processes, shape analysis, statistics, out-door didactics and evolutionary potential are other interests within the subject area.

I have for a long time investigated plants in semi-natural grassland, mainly using molecular markers to reveal local adaptation, demographic processes, habitat restoration, landscape history and species diversity. Species I have studied are Petrorhagia prolifera, Hippocrepis emerus, Bromus hordeaceus, Gypsophila fastigiata, Festuca ovina, Briza media, Euprasia stricta and Gymnadenia conopsea.

Recent interests are spatial and historical processes in forests and also genetics and dynamics in Chara populations in the Baltic Sea area. Chara oosopres are used to develop methods for ishape analysis, using Fourier transformations, to identify and measure variability of oospores in sediment samples.
