I defended my dissertation in political science at Stockholm university (Stockholm studies in politics 64) on political epistemology, democratic theory, and the Swedish debate on EU membership 1990-94 in 1999. Ive been lecturing, researching, and holding administrative positions of leadership at Södertörn university since 2000. Besides Stockholm and Södertörn universities, Ive taught at the School of Social Work [Socialhögskolan] and the University College of the Arts [Konstfack] in Stockholm and been a guest lecturer at universities in Stellenbosch, Warsaw, Florence, and Seoul. Apart from teaching on all levels and in most sectors of political science, I have been heavily engaged in gender studies, European studies, and educational studies/teachers training.

Ive been head of Södertörns departments of political science, international relations, and journalism and director of the European studies programme. Ive also served as dean of the faculty board for educational studies and teachers training - ultimately responsible for creating todays vibrant post-graduate and research environment at Södertörn as well as for developing and consolidating the first cycle teachers training programme that now makes up about a fifth of all of Södertörns education. Ive been on the board of two national post-graduate schools in educational studies; co-founded two international university consortia (one European and one European-Korean); and currently serve on the board of Södertörns post-graduate programme in the social sciences.

Ive authored, co-authored, or edited some eight research volumes and written a number of articles and anthology chapters. My most recent major work is the monograph Civic education and liberal democracy. Making post-normative citizens in normative political spaces (2017, Palgrave Macmillan). Articles have recently appeared in Religion, State & Society, Education, Citizenship & Social Justice, Statsvetenskaplig Tidskrift, Educational Philosophy & Theory and Tidskrift för Politisk Filosofi. As a political theorist my research interests include democratic theory, citizenship, normative-moral-civic education, political concepts and ideas, political culture and political epistemology.
