I studied at different German universities, focusing in particular on medieval history. My dissertation concerned the town historiography of the Northern German Hansa city Lüneburg between 1350 and 1639. Since then, I have engaged in different projects on the Swedish-German history in early modern times. My second book studied Sweden's diplomats in seventeenth century and their interests. Other research interests concern court history, friendship and patronage, cultural transfer, the early modern hospitals and finally different aspects of the early modern media history, the post, printed and handwritten newspaper, diplomatic correspondence.

I am first and foremost a social historian, who became more and more interest in cultural history. My main references are Pierre Bourdieu's sociology, the communication philosophy of Jürgen Habermas, cultural sociology and linguistic theories.

For now, I am most of all interested in Sweden's Baltic provinces and the Baltic Sea Area. My future research concerns the provinces' integration into the Swedish Empire, the crown's language policy and such.
