My research specialisms include regional policy making and public policy change in Northern Europe and the Baltic Sea region. The processes of internationalisation and formation of new identities and institutions lie at the very centre of my current research agenda.

The foundation for my competencies and interests has been provided by Scandinavian Studies at Poznan University in Poland (MA degree in 1992 for a thesis on Danish attitude towards the European Communities) and PhD in political science from Humboldt University Berlin in Germany in 2002 for a dissertation published as Roots of the Scandinavian Model. Images of Progress in the Era of Modernisation (Baden Baden 2002). Eventually it has been crowned by a post-graduate habilitation degree in sociology from the Jagiellonian University in Cracow in 2014 for my work entitled University in the frame of its times. Social transformation in the post-industrial age and changes in higher education in the Nordic countries. [orig. in Polish Uniwersytet na miarę swego czasu. Transformacja społeczna w dobie postindustrialnej a zmiany w szkolnictwie wyższym krajów nordyckich (Gdansk 2013).

I have participated in a number of international research projects, among others in 5th and 6th Framework Programmes: The Baltic Sea Area Studies – Northern Dimension of Europe (Nordeuropa-Institut in Berlin, 2000-2004), and Erasmus Mundus BalticStudyNet-Promoting Baltic Sea Region Higher Education Worldwide (2007-2010).

Apart from my activities in the Centre for Baltic and East European Studies I also hold a position of Associate Professor at the University of Gdansk (Institute of Scandinavian Studies and Applied Linguistics) in Poland. I offer courses pertaining to Nordic politics and society and to regional cooperation in the Baltic Sea area.
