With background in telecom engineering, communication for development and philosophy of Eastern cultures, in 2017 I defended my PhD dissertation entitled "Media Technologies in the Making: User-Driven Software and Infrastructures for Computer Graphics Production". In it I studied the ways in which computer graphcis free lancers and small animation studios create user-driven software for animation production. My fieldwork was based on the Blender 3D community and the Synfig 2D graphics communities. My interests were the cultures of production that surrounded these communities, the ways in which they created value and made technology valuable, as well as how did they employ practices of craft and making combining them with principles of openness and sharing. My work was funded by the Swedish Foundation for Baltic and East European Studies (Östersjöstiftelsen), and I am part of the Department of Media & Communication Studies at Södertörn University in Sweden.

My current research interests are on infrastructure studies, materiality and data centres. I am working to conceptualise novel practices of data heat recycling in Scandinavia as they are rewiring the urban and communication infrastructures in the Nordic countries (see my list of publications for more information).

Prior to academia, my professional background is rooted in the free software / open-source movement, but also around issues related to Internet Governance, and keeping the Internet open and free. For almost 10 years I have been working with Internet Society - Bulgaria which gave me the great opportunity to work on projects such as introducing free and open source software to governments on the Balkans, researching the Internet in Bulgaria, and working with local and central governments on a broad spectrum of ICT related issues. Since 2008 I live and work in Sweden.
