Kristy Beers Fägersten har fått sin doktorsexamen från University of Florida med en avhandling som heter A Descriptive Analysis of the Social Functions of Swearing in American English. Beers Fägersten undervisar i engelska med språkvetenskaplig inriktning på ämnets alla nivåer, såsom Översiktskurs i engelska språkvetenskap (A), Språk och makt (B), Teoretiska perspektiv i lingvistik (C), samt C-uppsatskursen.

Beers Fägerstens forskningsintressen rör pragmatik, sociolingvistik, samt diskurs- och samtalsanalys. Hon är medlem i nätverken SwiSca (Swearing in Scandinavia) och NNCORE (Nordic Network for Comics Research), och håller nu på med forskning om bruket av engelska svordomar i svenskan; samtida svenska tecknade seriers muntliga, samtalsmässiga aspekter; samspelet mellan alkohol och samtal i svenska tecknade serier, samt diskurs i svenska feministiska serier.

Kristy Beers Fägersten har tjänstgjort som Avdelningsföreståndare för engelska, svenska, litteraturvetenskap, och estetiska lärprocesser april-december 2013 (50%), ämnessamordnare för engelska january 2014-december 2015 (25%) och studierektor för forskarskolan BEEGS april 2014-augusti 2016 (30%).
