Gustav Amberg took over the post of Vice-Chancellor at Södertörn University on July 1, 2016. He has a doctoral degree from KTH Royal Institute of Technology and is Professor of Fluid Mechanics. Gustav Amberg was Dean of the KTH’s School of Engineering Sciences from December 2004 to March 2013, and was Vice President of faculty development and gender equity at KTH from 2008 to 2016. In the latter role he was responsible for developing career paths and support for faculty with the aim of creating an equitable environment for men and women, and providing the right conditions for excellence in education and research.

His research covers phase change, fluid flows, heat and mass transfer, surface tension effects, wetting, and electrokinetic liquid flow. His methods are primarily applied mathematics and numerical simulations. Much of the more recent work concerns microfluidics and fluid dynamics in microscopic dimensions, where surface forces such as surface tension or electrical forces may dominate. He also has a long-standing collaboration with materials scientists, studying solidification and solid phase transformations.
