Professional skills in user experience or interaction design This Master’s programme will qualify you for work in areas of media technology that focus on interaction design, user experience design, and the design of interactive media. When you graduate, you will have developed a wide range of skills, giving you the necessary expertise to work at most stages of the design and development process. Extensive theoretical and research preparatory parts of the programme provide an excellent basis for analytical work and roles in project management. The programme is also a good foundation for further studies at doctoral level. Read about research in this subject
A comprehensive skill-set for user-centred development This Master’s programme focuses on user research, user experience and interaction design. During your studies you will gain skills in critical analysis and evaluation, method development, and learn about research processes within media technology, as well as how to apply advanced theoretical knowledge of interactive media, user experience, interaction design, user-centred development, and design theory in the analysis of complex problems related to media technology. Stakeholders and user groups are considered as part of the processes that are discussed during the programme, and you will examine ways of communicating and implementing your solutions, so that you develop professional-level proficiency in the use of tools and methods from media design and interaction design. The programme also covers aspects of ethics and the law, as well as equality, sustainability and societal benefit. Semester 1 Interactive Media Design 15 credits, Design theory and methods 7,5 credits, User experience and user research I 7,5 credits Semester 2 Critical design 7,5 credits, User experience and user research II 7,5 credits, Advanced project work 15 credits Semester 3 Optional courses corresponding to 30 credits Semester 4 Master’s dissertation in media technology 30 cred Course design The second year of the degree programme includes a number of optional courses, covering 30 credits in total. These courses can be taken at Södertörn University or elsewhere, either in Sweden or abroad, although they should be in Media Technology or otherwise connected to the contents of the programme. Throughout the programme, theoretical knowledge and practical skills are consistently applied and linked through practical projects. Courses in theory and method are integrated in an independent Master’s dissertation. You may also choose to graduate early, with a one-year Master’s degree, after completing 60 credits.
Multidisciplinary expertise for improved user experience Are you interested in multidisciplinary studies that link theoretical knowledge with practical skills? Do you want to focus on user experience and interaction design, analysing and formulating design solutions for complex problems? This Master’s degree covers the above areas, as well as subjects such as the role and importance of interactive media in society and the ethical and legal frameworks for research and development in media technology. The programme is designed to make it possible to study a semester abroad in the second year of the programme, or to graduate early with a one-year Master’s degree.
