Selection: On the basis of previous university credits. Between 30 and 285 credits may be taken into account.

Economics, Master's Programme

Programme 120 credits

This Master’s programme (120 credits) is a preparation for doctoral studies in Economics or for a career in the public or private sectors. Courses follow international standards, combining theory and application, and are taught in English.

This programme has an earlier application period and is aimed at applicants who are non-EEA nationals. Application and tuition fees have been introduced for students with citizenship in countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland. Programme content

The aim of this programme is to prepare students for doctoral studies or a career in the private or public sector. The programme is open to exchange students and other international students.

  • Environmental Economics and Sustainable Development
  • Comparative Socio-Economic Systems
  • Advanced Econometrics: Heterogeneity and Panel Data
  • International Macroeconomics
  • Comparative Research Methods
The following courses are offered during the second semester:

  • Advanced International Trade Theory
  • Advanced Financial Economics
  • Advanced Econometrics: Time Series and Hypothesis Tests
  • Advanced Industrial Organisation
The following courses are offered during the third semester:

  • International Macroeconomics
  • Theory of Knowledge
  • Intersectional Analysis
  • Advanced Microeconomics
  • Advanced Macroeconomics
Please note the following as regards the entry requirements:

It is necessary to possess the equivalent of English B and a Bachelor’s degree with 90 credits in Economics, including a course in Intermediate Macroeconomics, Intermediate Microeconomic and in Econometrics. This corresponds to approximately three semesters of full-time studies in Economics. Courses in Business Administration are generally not considered equivalent to Economics. Optional courses may be replaced by other courses after approval from the programme coordinator.

Degree of Master of Science (120 credits) in Economics

After the programme

Economists work in both the private and the public sectors and are sought after in local and central government, including central banks and ministries of finance, as well as by international organisations. Within the private sector there is a demand for economists for work in banks, insurance companies, consultancies and other organisations. It is also possible to transfer to the one-year programme.
