Workshop arranged by the Media and Communication Studies and Journalism departments, funded by the Centre for Baltic and East European Studies (CBEES)

The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia has reminded the world that wars are not only fought with guns but also with information. The conflict has been described in terms of “propaganda” or “hybrid warfare”, often with a particular focus on the Russian efforts of orchestrating and spreading a state controlled pro-Kremlin version of the events in Ukraine. Less attention has been given to the production of information, stories and images on the Ukrainian side.

This workshop will focus on “Ukrainian narratives” that are produced during these turbulent times. To what extent are various government authorities, media organizations, NGOs, academics and corporate actors engaged in constructing and disseminating Ukrainian perspectives related to the current crises?  In which forms and contexts can we find such narratives and for which audiences are they produced?
