Symposium: 30 years with the Chernobyl legacy

Higher seminar and book presentation with Olga Kunchinskaya, arranged by the Centre for Baltic and East European Studies (CBEES), the Institute of Contemporary History and the library at Södertörn University.

On the 26th of April 1986, reactor no 4 at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant exploded, causing immediate deaths as well as long-lasting human suffering and severe contamination of the physical environment. The accident also became an object for competing truth claims and different strands of narration. Which crucial information about the danger of the radioactive outlet was shared, and which was not? Who’s voices were heard and who’s voices were silenced? And how do we live with the Chernobyl legacy today – 30 years later?
