Fake news and verification in news reporting

Fergus Bell, news reporter and specialist in verification in journalism gives a talk on problems in verification of user-generated content and other kind of digital sources as social media.

Social media and digital sources are becoming increasingly important for all news operations, knowing how to verify the content they produce and create workflows that allow you to do so with speed and accuracy is essential for any newsroom. Lessons learned from more than 10 years of verifying eyewitness media can now be turned to so-called "fake news" and may offer solutions to the problem that many are currently facing.

During this seminar you'll be guided through verification as a process, introduced to the tools that newsrooms are using now and will use in the future, be guided through the ethical issues that plague this work and the standards needed to keep it sustainable and explore areas where research may help both journalists and audiences alike.

The seminar will be held in English.
As usual - coffe and pie!

    Welcome

    Gunnar Nygren
