Climate Journalism, Climate Activism, Climate Justice

    Higher Seminar in Journalism.

Anna Roosvall, Professor of Media and Communication Studies, Stockholm University, discusses her new book Media and Transnational Climate Justice: Indigenous Activism and Climate Politics (Roosvall & Tegelberg, 2018,

She focuses on opportunities and challenges concerning solidarian and transnational modes of communication in journalism and alternative (digital) communication. Media reporting as well as political philosophical discussions on climate justice traditionally follow a nation-state logic. This clashes with the transnational character of climate change and moreover often exclude certain groups from stories and from decision-making political bodies. Media coverage of UN climate summits (COPs) is examined and related to research interviews with activists from indigenous peoples around the world, and responsibility for climate change is discussed with a particular focus on journalistic responsibility.
