    Dispossessions: Gender as Resource for the Construction of Neo-Authoritarian Us/Them-Dichotomies

    Advanced Gender Seminar with Sabine Hark, TU Berlin, arranged by the Department for Gender Studies at the School of Culture and Education, Södertörn University.

    Prof. Sabine Hark is head of the Center for Research on Women and Gender at the Technische Universität Berlin and one of the most outstanding gender and queer scholars in contemporary Germany. Her presentation, which will be available as an article in the current issue of Baltic Worlds, is based on her recent monograph. Authored with Paula Villa, Unterscheiden und Herrschen (distinguish and rule) it critically rethinks a new constellation of power in the wake of the Silvester Nacht in Köln (New Year’s Eve in Cologne 2016), when feminism was quickly appropriated in the service of racism, and where femonationalism and antigenderist populism coincide. The volume seeks to open the path toward building a society in which engagement with difference is the hope for the future.

    Recent publications include: with Paula-Irene Villa: Unterscheiden und herrschen. Ein Essay zu
    den ambivalenten Verflechtungen von Rassismus, Sexismus und Feminismus in der
    Gegenwart. (Bielefeld: Transcript: 2017);
