Gustav Amberg appointed the new vice-chancellor of Södertörn University
The Government has decided to appoint Gustav Amberg, vice president at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, the new vice-chancellor of Södertörn University in Stockholm for the period 1 July 2016 to 30 June 2022. The Government also appointed the chair and other external members of Södertörn University’s Governing Board.

Gustav Amberg has a high level of scholarly expertise, long experience of leadership and qualities that fulfil the requirements we established for taking Södertörn University into the future.” We welcome him and the new board members and look forward to working together.”
“I’m honoured to have been appointed vice-chancellor of Södertörn University and am looking forward to leading the university into the future. It is a university characterised by innovation, diversity and openness,” says Gustav Amberg.
Gustav Amberg has been a Professor of Fluid Mechanics at KTH since 1999. He was a visiting researcher at MIT, Stanford and, recently, at the University of Tokyo. He has been principal supervisor for 13 doctoral students and has a long and well-cited list of publications.
Gustav Amberg was head of the School of Engineering Sciences at KTH for two periods between December 2004 and March 2013, which entailed responsibility for education and research in the school’s areas. When KTH was reorganised, Gustav Amberg was tasked with building up the school, which consists of seven departments with around 600 employees, of which 70 are professors. In 2013 its turnover was around SEK 700 million.
Gustav Amberg has been vice president for faculty development and gender equity since 2008. He is a member of the Government’s expert group for gender equality in higher education and has been a member of Dalarna University’s governing board since 2013. As head of school and then vice-president, Gustav Amberg has been part of KTH’s management group since 2004.
The Government has also appointed the chair and other external members of Södertörn University’s Governing Board for the period 1 May 2016 – 30 April 2017.
