Anti-gender politics, masculinism and feminist politics: Reflections on Turkey and beyond
Research seminar arranged by the Department of Ethnology at the School of Historical and Contemporary Studies, Södertörn University.
Alev Özkazanç, visiting fellow at St. Antony’s College, University of Oxford, will discuss ongoing anti-gender mobilisations in Turkey, where anti-gender politics and men’s movements have been on the rise in recent years. Drawing both on academic debates on male resentment, homofobia and misogny, and on the flaws of feminist responses to the issue, she will discuss the need to develop a politics of radical democracy to respond to rising national populisms and hetero-patriarchal reactions.
Discussant: Emil Edenborg, Researcher, Swedish Institute of International Affairs (Utrikespolitiska institutet)
