Join another roundtable from the whole year series USSR30! This time with focus on the urban spaces of the former Soviet cities as affected by the collapse of the USSR in 1991.

The present panel suggests discussing urban spaces of the former Soviet cities as affected by the collapse of the USSR in 1991 from a variety of perspectives. We will map and analyse the traces of the socio-economic, cultural, and political processes that led to the 1991 events in the late Soviet urban landscapes and think on the consequences of those processes, which enhanced further urban transformations of the post-Soviet space in the past thirty years.

By employing the fields of architectural history, urban theory, literary, and film studies, we will analyse the contemporary urban spaces of the former Soviet cities that embraced the 30 years after the USSR as both the memory sites of those events and as the cultural landscapes that were affected by and responded to the collapse of the USSR.
