Aleida Assmann’s lecture “Challenges in transforming German Memory Culture”

The Lecture is organized by Södertörn Memory Studies Platform.

Abstract:

After the end of the Second World War, it took 40 years to establish what is today called a “German memory culture”. After another 40 years, involving “reunification”, the extension of the EU and a continuous progress of migration, this memory culture is confronted with new challenges.
The lecture will discuss some of the issues that accompany the difficult contentious project of transforming German memory culture.
