Trust Media in Exile: Perception of Oppositional Media in Russia

Due to the so-called 'war censorship’ introduced by the Kremlin right after the beginning of the war in Ukraine, many oppositional journalists fled the country fearing criminal prosecution. Working from exile in some cases altered journalistic reporting by enhancing political positioning when covering events back in Russia. The presentation will address how work from exile and more pronounced oppositional bias affected the trust in oppositional media and their use in the Russia after February 2022. The study relies on mixed-methods approach using semi-structured interviews and open-ended survey.
