Roundtable: Conversations

The Centre for Baltic and East European Studies (CBEES) invites you to the roundtable Conversations: Conviviality and Equity across Differences

The roundtable aims to discuss and analyse different contexts and modes in which the (nation)state and state institutions relate to national minorities, as well as ways in which minorities relate to these or their role in creating/changing these contexts. Sometimes these complex interactions between different actors, instead of taking the form of a conversation, which implies full attention on both sides, reflect asymmetrical power relations involving complex hierarchies. By bringing together researchers from Romania and Södertörn University/CBEES, the roundtable seeks to gain a better understanding of historical, social, and political contexts, as well as educational practices and resources in relation to national minorities, through different perspectives and cases from Eastern Europe and the Baltics.

The roundtable is divided in two sessions:

Session 1 (11:00-12:45) Agency and actors of national minorities in different historical, social, and political contexts
Speakers: László Fosztó (ISPMN), Domino Kai (Södertörn University), Per Bolin (Södertörn University, CBEES), and Anca Filipovici (ISPMN)

Session 2 (14:15-16:00) Educational practices and resources, and intercultural perspectives involving national minorities
Speakers: Angelina Dimiter Taikon (Södertörn University), Stefánia Toma (ISPMN), Arina Stoenescu (Södertörn University), Adriana Cupcea (ISPMN), and David Östlund (Södertörn University).
