International conference on Anthropology and Ethnology in and of the Baltic Sea Region
The Baltic region is currently navigating a period of intensified militarisation, rising populism, environmental degradation, and shifting migration landscapes. In response to these urgent transformations, this conference convenes ethnologists and anthropologists to critically examine these developments, strengthen regional scholarly collaboration, and explore the evolving trajectories of the ethnographic disciplines.
Zuzanna Bogumił (University of Warsaw) will deliver the keynote address, "European Pivot or Peripheral Sea? Towards an Anthropology of the Baltic Sea," exploring the region as a relational area shaped by overlapping histories of empires and mobilities.
Thematic panels will investigate
- Frontiers of Crisis,
- Echoes of Empire,
- Contested Belonging,
- Ecological Assemblages, and
- Imaginaries of Threat.
Please be advised that this event is for invitees only.
