Rent seeking and lobbying in the Swedish electricity market

Higher seminar arranged by the Centre for the studies of Political Organisation (CPO) and co-hosted by the Sociology Department at the School of Social Sciences, Södertörn University.

Mats A Nilsson, Economics, Södertörn University, presents an exploratory study of lobbying activities in the Swedish electricity market.

Abstract

This is an exploratory study of lobbying activities in the Swedish electricity market. The paper superficially describes how nuclear and wind power advocates the use of their technology in the future electricity market. I identify both direct rent-seeking in the form of subsidies but additionally we can observe some direct contrasting of the two technologies, highlighting either benefits for the power system or socioeconomic benefits.
