Anna McWilliams is a researcher in archaeology. She has worked extensively in the UK, Egypt, Italy and Cyprus as well as in Sweden in both research and contract archaeology. She has a BA (hons) in History and Archaeology from Birkbeck College, London and a M.Sc. in Forensic Archaeology from Bournemouth University. She has also worked as a Heritage Consultant since 2006. McWilliams specialises in contemporary and twentieth-century archaeology with a particular focus on the archaeology of conflict. In her doctoral thesis she investigated the physical remains of the former Iron Curtain.

She is a member of the Standing Committee for the Contemporary and Historical Archaeology in Theory Group (CHAT).

Her current research project, funded by the Foundation for Baltic and East European Studies, focuses on material remains of World War II in and around the Baltic Sea. She is also part of a collaborative project with Blekinge Museum and SFI Stockholm Stad that works towards finding ways of using the cultural environment as a tool for integration and language learning for immigrants.
