I am an academic (Starting on January 1, 2017, Professor in Romani Studies at Södertörn University, Stockholm, and University Lecturer in Romani Language and Culture at the University of Helsinki, Finland) with twenty years of experience in theoretical and participatory research with Roma communities in the Nordic and Baltic Countries, as well as in Eastern Central Europe.

I have a long track-record in Romani Linguistics, but I am also interested in issues of education, employment and social inclusion of the Roma, on which I have coordinated a number of research projects.

I am currently the chairperson of the “Network of Academic Institutions in Romani Studies” (NAIRS, www.sh.se/nairs) and a member of the Reference Group of the collaborative Nordic research network “Romers och resandes historia i Norden” (Roma and Resandes history in the Nordic countries; RORHIN). I am a member of the Gypsy Lore Society since 2016. I cooperate, for instance, with Slovak and Czech Academies of Sciences, the Minority Studies Society “Studii Romani” in Bulgaria, and European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights. I am a member of the Committee of Experts of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.

I am currently Editor of Södertörn Series on Romani Studies, which is the only Nordic peer-reviewed publication series dedicated to Romani Studies.

I am committed to promoting academic excellence in Romani Studies, multidisciplinary and participatory research on Roma, co-operation and intellectual regeneration through supporting young emerging scholars.
