Want to read with your ears? Text to speech free of charge on your own phone and computer.
As a student at Södertörn University you can get a speech synthesizer program (also known as text to speech) on your own computer. From now on, you can get the same program om your phone as well. With TorTalk you can get ebooks, articles, your own texts and other digital texts read aloud by a computer voice.

TorTalk is easy to use and automatically converts text on your screen into speech. The program is primarily developed if you have some type of reading impairment, but is also useful when you read in a language other than your first. For example, if your first language isn't Swedish, or if you are struggling with academic texts in English. Or just prefer to listen, or want to be able to vary your reading.
As a student or staff member at SH you can download Tortalk free of charge on your own computer and phone. It is available for both Windows and Mac, and for iOS and Android (the latter currently in dev version). You can choose for yourself the languages and voices you want, voices are available in 20 different languages.
After you finish your studies, you can keep the program on your computer but do not have access to new updates. The program is also available in all computer rooms on campus, as well as on all the computers in the library.
At the page Text to speech you will the information you need to get started.
If you are a staff member, please read more on Medarbetarwebben.
