Call for papers: “Sustaining collective struggles in times of multiple crises”
In September 2026, Södertörn University will host the conference “Sustaining collective struggles in times of multiple crises: Theoretical and methodological advancements in Eastern Europe and the Baltic Sea region”. The organisers are welcoming researchers to submit abstracts.
The conference is organised within the framework of the research project SustainAction (Sustaining Civil Society in the Context of Multiple Crises: Hubs of Engagement in Central and Eastern Europe and Sweden), which is led by Professor Dominika V. Polanska and funded by The Foundation for Baltic and East European Studies.
The project is focused on analysing and comparing the resilience and resourcefulness of the civil society in Poland, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Czechia and Sweden. The researchers involved in the project examine the genealogies of the existing local, national and global crises related to the economy, housing, the climate, food, the pandemic and gender equality, and they explore how people respond to these crises collectively.
The conference will take place at Södertörn University, 24–25 September 2026. It will be an interdisciplinary conference exploring how collective action persists and evolves amid political, economic, environmental, and social crises in Eastern Europe and the Baltic Sea region.
The organisers welcome abstracts (max. 300 words) on theoretical and methodological innovations, new mobilizations, intersectional alliances, and more.
Submission deadline: 13 March 2026.
