Ylva Fältholm – the new vice-chancellor of Södertörn University
The Swedish government has today, 28 May, formally decided on the appointment of a new vice-chancellor for Södertörn University. Professor Ylva Fältholm will take office on 1 August.
“I am delighted and very honoured to be appointed vice-chancellor of Södertörn University. The university is a dynamic environment with extremely interesting research and education, and I am looking forward to being part of it,” she says.
Fältholm is a civil engineer and professor of human work science, and is currently vice-chancellor of the University of Gävle, a position she has held since 2017. She started her academic career at Luleå University of Technology, LTU, in the 1980s and was awarded her PhD in 1998. She was head of the Department of Human Work Science from 2001 to 2006, becoming associate professor (docent) of human work science in 2007 and professor in 2011. She was also appointed vice-dean and then dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology at LTU.
Her research has focused on management and governance for gender equal, effective and innovative workplaces, as well as the impact of organisational changes and how new technologies affect professions and professional roles.
“I wish Ylva Fältholm success in her role as vice-chancellor of Södertörn University. Her solid experience as vice-chancellor makes her well-suited for this position,” says Minister for Education Johan Pehrson in a press release from the government.
Ylva Fältholm succeeds Gustav Amberg, who has been vice-chancellor of Södertörn University since 2016.
