Golnoush Gharaee this year's Global Swede at Södertörn University

The Global Swede Award is given to international students who show excellent achievement in areas closely related to innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship. The awardee is also a great representative of their country as well as Sweden. This year, Golnoush Gharaee from Iran has received the award. Congratulations!

Global Swede Award External link, opens in new window. is an award for international students initiated by the Swedish Government and Swedish Institute (SI). The award aims to build a long-term relationship and cross-border, multicultural networks between Sweden and international students. This year, Golnoush Gharaee is one of 25 awardees from 17 countries around the world. Here is a short interview with her after the digital award ceremony.

Her feelings as awardee, study experience, and career plan

How do you feel about the award?

– I am thrilled to be among the most outstanding international students graduating from Swedish universities this year.

What do you think about studying at Södertörn University?

As advantages in Swedish education, she highlights student-centred learning, group work, and independent study. Also, she continues:

– In particular, about Södertörn University, the freedom and responsibility I have received within the duration of my master's degree developed me a lot as a student.

What is your plan after graduation?

– I have been working as a Marketing Coordinator at a Swedish startup, so my career journey is to continue growing myself in the marketing field and help companies to expand in Europe.

Anne Kaun, programme director at the Master’s Programme in Media, Communication and Cultural Analysis, appreciates Golnoush's supportive and inclusive attitude in the discussion and motivates the reasons for the nomination:

–Golnoush has worked on her thesis on the role of influencer endorsements for politicians and their election campaigns. This field is topical, and Golnoush's work creatively addresses current changes in how we engage with politics. She has been an important part of the programme and contributed actively during seminars and beyond.
