New platform for SH-StudyWeb in the autumn

The new SH-StudyWeb is being introduced in the autumn semester of 2022, because the university is changing its learning management system from Itslearning to Canvas.

This means that when you come back after the summer, your courses will be in Canvas rather than the old Itslearning SH-StudyWeb. We’re introducing it on our summer courses to get a head start over the summer.

What does this involve for students?

  • SH-StudyWeb will have a new appearance and a new login link
  • New functions, so managing your studies is easier
  • Navigation has a basic structure, so it is easier and uses fewer clicks
  • The home page for all courserooms looks the same, so the links for the syllabus, timetable and reading list are always in the same place
  • A new app you can download from AppStore/Google Play
  • If you want to save anything from an old courseroom, you must do so before 30 November 2022
  • Resits or work left to do from the spring semester? Ask your teacher where they should be done.

Interview with a student who tested the new SH-StudyWeb

A few courses are testing the new SH-StudyWeb during the spring. Henrik Selander is studying Media Technology and has just finished a course about mobile services and interfaces, which was one of our test courses. Henrik has not used Canvas before, and thinks it took a while to get used to the new way of working, but is positive overall:

“Itslearning builds upon a folder structure, while Canvas consists of modules. This means that, overall, you use fewer clicks in Canvas because you don’t need to do deep searches in the folder structure.”

Henrik also thinks that the timeframe for assignments is clearer in Canvas. The overview shows assignments by week, and lectures and assignments can be seen on the same timeline.

“A good overview is helpful because it makes it easier to structure your studies,” says Henrik.

Students and teachers can communicate using discussions in Canvas. The students on the test course used the discussions quite a lot.

“Use discussions as a resource and a forum for exchanging ideas and solving problems. That’s my suggestion for people who are going to be using the new SH-StudyWeb,” says Henrik.
