Analysis and evaluation of canonical texts in media theory

This Master’s level course provides a detailed description of the central traditions of 20th century media theory, based on the reading of canonical texts and overviews of/discussions about these traditions. You will summarise, analyse and evaluate advanced academic texts, communicating your findings orally and in writing and, in doing so, you will describe the possibilities and limitations of the traditions and strategies of media studies.

Course design

The course is seminar-based and is examined through a written take-home exam, active participation in seminars, which includes oral presentations. Attendance is compulsory at the introductory session and at all seminars.
