Fundamental understanding of environmental economics through critical analysis

This course aims to provide you with a fundamental understanding of environmental economics, by showing you how economic analysis can be used to deal with environmental problems and to promote sustainable development. You will learn to apply standard microeconomic analysis to the field of natural resources, the environment and sustainable development, and suggest ways in which policy makers can meet environmental challenges, including climate change. As part of this, you will provide economic explanations for environmental degradation and describe the economics of pollution control, natural resource use and sustainable development.

The knowledge and understanding that you gain about the consequences of climate change and knowledge of international environmental problems will help you critically assess empirical and theoretical literature, so you can identify policies for solving environmental problems at local and international levels in a sustainable way.
