Challenge established truths and examine issues of emancipation In this course, you will examine what post-colonialism and emancipatory research entail in Romani Studies and learn to apply a critical approach to discussions of Romani issues, as well as discussing the research field of Romani Studies and how it is changing. Critical Romani Studies is positioned in a postcolonial tradition, striving to rewrite history because the Romani experience has largely been ignored. It is crucial that Roma are part of defining the research field. The course is a collaboration between Södertörn University and the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture (ERIAC), with the lectures largely coming from ERIAC’s Barvalipe Roma Online University. You will attend lectures given by some of the foremost experts in each area, and Romani academics ensure a unique perspective from within each topic. Assessment is through written assignments and oral discussions.
