The fundamentals of modern linguistic theories and their application

This course covers the fundamentals of modern linguistic theories and their application, including subjects such as morphology, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics and language acquisition; it also approaches linguistic variation from geographical, social, cultural and situational perspectives. The aim of the course is to strengthen and develop your oral and written skills in English and that you learn about the fundamental linguistic features of the English language, so that you can define and apply linguistic concepts and argumentation. You will learn to apply tools in order to analyse spoken and written English, and to write academic texts with a clear structure and formal style.

Course design

Teaching is in the form of lectures and seminars, and is conducted in English. Assessment is via a written examination, as well as written assignments, oral presentations, and attendance at the lectures and seminars.
