Strategies and approaches in the management of human resources
This course provides you with knowledge of the concepts, theories and models that are necessary to define and understand the management of an organisation’s human resources. You will explore the importance of a strategic approach to human resource management and its alignment to the overall strategy of an organisation, as well as learning to identify and analyse different approaches to, and outcomes of, human resource management. These are important skills as, to meet the challenge of globalisation, organisations have gradually shifted focus from competition and competitors to networks and customers, towards diversity, life-long learning, and from managerial control to empowerment. All of this means that contemporary organisations need to place a premium on effective human resource management strategies and practices.
The course is taught through lectures and seminars, and assessed through a group project and written examination.
