Exercises in English grammar, writing and oral communication

This course is built up around teaching and exercises in English grammatical theory, oral communication, presentation techniques and academic writing. You will study the rules and conventions of English grammar, vocabulary and syntax, as well as writing short essays and correct summaries of academic articles, which are evaluated on the basis of their linguistic precision, structure and argumentation. You will discuss strategies for communication in multilingual contexts and practise participating in academic discussions, as well as preparing for and deliver an academic oral presentation. One aim of the course is to help you identify your own linguistic difficulties and judge your need for continued study.

Course design

Teaching is conducted through lectures and seminars, and all teaching and course materials/literature is in English. The course is examined through active participation in seminars and the continuous assessment of written assignments, as well as an oral presentation.
