What's included?

Applying theory and terminology to the study of language

On this course, you will broaden your linguistic knowledge and deepen your understanding and application of methods and theories for the scientific study of language, including modern linguistic analysis and theory. You will learn to identify, describe and compare the advantages and disadvantages of different theories and methods for analysing language, and practise the application of theory and terminology individually and in small groups. The course also examines theories and concepts within areas that include sociolinguistics, discourse analysis and corpus linguistics.

Course design

Teaching is in the form of lectures and all the course literature is in English. The course is examined through attendance at the seminars and lectures, written assignments and oral presentations.
